YSOVA CAMPUS

The YSOVA campus is centrally located in downtown Dawson City. As the town is small most amenities are within a 5-20 minute walk.

 

STUDIO 1 & STUDIO 2

Two spacious classrooms host Foundation-Year 2-D, 4-D, and lecture classes. Each Foundation Year student is assigned an individual studio space in one of these shared studio environments for the duration of the program.

 
SOVA Casting Project 3-D Studio

3-D Studio

The 3-D Studio is a large workroom used for mould making, casting, working with willow fibre and paper making, 3-D assemblage, wood working and carving, and screen printing, amoung other class projects. The Studio Technician is on-site to assist students with equipment and tools.

Some of the equipment available to Foundation-Year students includes:

  • a range of saws including a mitre saw, belt saw, table saw, scroll saw

  • a range of sanders including belt sanders and orbital sanders

  • drill press, cordless drills and drivers

  • routers, dremels

  • a range of hand tools including carving tools

  • sewing machines

 
YSOVA Library

LIBRARY

The YSOVA library houses carefully curated collection of books, magazines, and other media relating to the visual arts. The library also provides students with access to a wide range of academic journals via Yukon University's community campus link to online article databases.

The Library Technician is available to assist students with research on select evenings and on Sunday afternoons.

 
YSOVA Gallery

SOVA GALLERY

Open to the public, the SOVA Gallery is used for class projects as well as the Graduation Exhibition in April. During the summer the SOVA Gallery is host to exhibitions by local artists.

 

A/V ROOM & EQUIPMENT

Foundation-Year students can use on-site computers, high-resolution scanners, large format photo printers, and borrow A/V equipment for class projects and exhibitions. At the beginning of the semester, each student is aassigned a 13” MacBook laptop with Adobe Creative Cloud, FinalCut Pro, and Microsoft Office, for use during the program.

SOVA A/V equipment includes:

  • digital cameras including Nikon DSLR, Fujifilm X-T30, Fujifilm X-S10, various lenses including zoom, wide angle, macro lenses, and peripherals

  • digital video cameras

  • lighting kits and additional ring lights, cube lights, & reflectors

  • white and green screens

  • microphones

  • projectors

 

ART STORE

The SOVA Art Store carries materials needed for courses as well as some basic art supplies. The store is open during SOVA Office hours and is cash-only. Access to the Art Store is limited to SOVA students.
